A new page was written in the history of national yachting in 2011. The Bank Cup and Onego, two of Russia's popular regattas, have made a decision to join their forces.
This year this joint yachting competition will take place again in the water area of Lake Onego. Within the period in July, from 27th to 31st Karelia will welcome participants of the Sailing Regatta Onego - Bank Cup 2017.
At the turn of the XXI century a romantic idea to organize sailing races among bank communities was born. It was endorsed by the Russian Assisiation of Sailing sport, and the first competitions were held in 2001. As a noncommercial event, the regatta became popular among sportsmen and amateurs, and confirmed the manifestation of the idea.
For almost 14 years, yachting has been one of the most entertaining events which yachtsmen started from the overcrowded embankent of the lake. This colorific beginning of the multi-stage tour attracts citizens as well as tourists coming from different regions and countries.
The traditions of sailing and yachting sports in Russia began with the great reforms put by the emperor Peter the I. The foundation of our town and its unique geographical location have great opportunities to develop yachting in the future.
About 50 yachts of such classes as Open 800, Quarter Ton, Sportboat, 32 Feet, and Dragon will take part in the regatta. Applications to participate in the Race may be submitted so far.
