Hyberborea & Hyperborean Fun

Ice and snow sculptures festival Hyperborea is became the most significant event for the friends of frozen art. International Winter Festival gathers up participants fr om other regions of Russia and European countries.

Name of the event reflects the essence of the festival: uniting inhabitants on the north and giving the opportunity of cultural exchange between the cities, wh ere winter is the most time of the year.

The main part of event is an international competition of snow and ice sculptures. In the finals the amazing monuments grow from huge cubes of snow and ice on the Onego embankment. Sculptures are illuminated with bright lights when dark arises until the first rays of spring sunshine. Icy monuments with lights create a very pecial atmosphere of the northern mysteries.

At the same time the entertainment show of Hyperborean fun is arranged in the city. It is costumed carnival that goes through the main streets of Petrozavodsk. Event includes also winter swimming competitions, ice fishing, fun contests etc.
