From Petrozavodsk to St.Petersburg and to by plane, air transportation in Karelia

Karelia, the Official portal informs: On July, 20th Antonov's An-28 plane made the first scheduled flight from Petrozavodsk to St. Petersburg.

Reporters of Karelia were also invited to join the familiarization flight. Valentine Luntsevich, Minister of Economic Development of Karelia, together with the director of Kostomuksha airport Anatoly Brilko and the director of Petrozavodsk airport Alexey Kuzmitsky took the same flight to go to St. Petersburg to meet Rosaviatsiya (Northwest Interregional Territorial Administration of the Federal Air Transport Agency) to discuss issues concerning airport reactivation in Karelia.

The airport in Kostomuksha is being prepared for disposition in the economic jurisdiction of the republic. It is to introduce flights from Kostomuksha in 2011. The airport of Pudozh is in progress of repair activity.

The project of air transport restoration include introduction of flights to Helsinki, one of Finnish companies has indicated its willingness to work with Petrozavodsk.

On July 23 the An-28 makes its first flight to the Solovetsky Islands. Flights should become regular, on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The plane departs for the islands at 09.05 a.m., and arrive there at 10.30 a.m. The return flight is scheduled to depart from the Solovki at 4:30 p.m., and to arrive in Petrozavodsk at 5:55 p.m.
