Petroglyphs on the White Sea and on Onego Lake and the village of Kinerma are included in the list of seven wonders of the Finno-Ugric world

Final voting within the framework of the Seven Wonders of Finno-Ugric and Samoyed Peoples International Information Project is over now. Voting for Wonders of Finno-Ugric World was held on the website of the Media Center (http://finugor.ru/7wonders-winners) from June 30 to December 7, 2010 involving experts from Russia, Hungary, Finland and Estonia. The project was carried out in 3 stages, pursued socio-educational objects and was focused on promoting an interest to material and intangible heritage of Urals peoples.

At active support of partners of the action a list of objects of cultural, natural and historical heritage of all the 25 Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples was drawn on the website of the Media Center. Winners were selected in four nominations: Nature, Culture, Monuments and Construction, Holidays. Information about unique and little known to a wide audience heritage of Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples was collected at the support of experts.

Every Internet-user could widen the list of wonders. More than 400 descriptions of sights, many photographs, videos and audio records were submitted for the competition. From November 1 to December 8 Internet-users have been selecting the winners by open voting. 7 “wonders” were selected by public voting in each of the four nominations. Due to Internet and SMS-voters 28 wonders of the Finno-Ugric world were chosen. The title of “the Wonder of the Finno-Ugric World” in the Culture nomination is awarded to two Karelian objects which got the maximum number of votes: petroglyphs on the White Sea and on the Lake Onego and the village of Kinerma.

The information collected during the project was included into the Finno-Ugric national encyclopedia. Every Internet-user can participate in its appending. Add your articles, photographs, videos and audio records. Organizers welcome new partners and new information, offers may be sent to 7w@finugor.ru
