About 200 representatives of executive authority of subjects of the Russian Federation and operators of tourist industry of Russia, Germany, Finland and France take part in the international tourist forum which has opened today in the capital of Karelia.
As the prime minister of the government of Karelia Pavel Chernov has told the SPB-TASS correspondent, the forum "became an important international discussion platform for meetings of tourist industry representatives, and authorities responsible for development of the branch." As he said, tourism in Karelia makes 6% in total regional product, and income of all kinds of entrance tourism last year has made more than 3 billion roubles. 1,7 million tourists visited the republic in 2006. In the forthcoming 3 to 4 years substantial growth of investments into tourist branch is predicted in the republic, the investment up to 1 billion roubles of annual unappropriated means in infrastructure of Karelian tourism is expected.
Within the framework of the forum in Petrozavodsk there also opened international scientific and practical conference on problems of tourism development in the Northwest of Russia, and, in particular, on prospects of Russian-Finnish cooperation.
One of the main events of the forum there became opening of the tourist industry exhibition in which participate more than 70 exhibitors from Archangelsk area, Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Krasnodar Territory and Ukraine. At the exhibition services of Russian tourist firms are presented along with equipment and transport for outdoor activity.
