It was the motto of Sergey Katanandov’s press conference in the "Interfax" Northwest bureau in St.Petersburg.

Journalists of the northern capital and Leningrad region have shown great interest; 37 representatives of mass media were accredited and send to ask questions to Sergey Katanandov.

The leader of Karelia told about improving and tourist potential of the republic and attention which Government of the RK pays to social policy implementing, first of all, to construction of recreational and sports objects. Last year these expences have made 68% of total amount of consolidated budget of the republic. Assignment have been increased by 22% in the sphere of public health services and sports, and by 32% in culture. There also remained positive dynamics of development of the tourist branch where volume of excursion and hotel services has been growing every year. About 1,7 million people visit Karelia every year. In the forthcoming 3-4 years experts predict essential rise of investment activity in this branch.

In the opinion of the Head of Karelia, the republic today is marketed as a basic building site in the Northwest region and invites investors for development of outdoor activity camps, such as Spasskaya Guba in Kondopoga district and Yalguba in Prionezhie. Among successful investment projects Sergey Katanandov has noted construction os a large 4-star hotel complex Onego Palace and many tourist camps all over the woodland. According to the head of Karelia, the main advantage of the republic is its savage scenery and preserved cultural heritage, and with all this going on there are road infrastructure, cellular and electronic communication developed.

In this connection, Sergey Katanandov has especially emphasized that carrying out of meetings of this kind with journalists of Moscow, St.Petersburg is a signal for large investors who are invited to Karelia for participation in serious projects in the sphere of tourism. In turn, the republic will receive new workplaces, and tax payments in budgets of all levels will also grow.

Within an hour and a half Sergey Katanandov has answered 36 questions of journalists regarding such issues as consequences of events in Kondopoga, housing construction in the republic, frontier cooperation, foreign yachts’ pass in inland waters of Russia, informatization of Karelia, development of telemedicine and economic cooperation with St.Petersburg and Leningrad region.
