The capital of Krelia hosted Hyperborea-2007 International Winter Festival called so in the name of the northern fairyland in which, according to the legend, history of mankind originated.
In the snow-covered quay of Onego lake in Petrozavodsk there was held a competition of snowmen and winter city dog show, fans of ice-fishing competed on the ice of Onego lake, and several meters away from fishers in a specially cut through font there passed the winter swimmers' show.
Hundreds of citizens of Petrozavodsk and visitors of the city have taken part in the Onego Delights throwing valenki, and mittens and even automobile tires. Children were especially excited riding down from a hill in the most usual wash-basins. Demonstration shows and competitions of fans of power kinds of sports took place, folklore ensembles participated in the Shrovetide Festiveal.
In the evening on the quay of Onego lake in Petrozavodsk the took place a carnival procession of Hyperboreans and rewarding of winners of the international competition of snow and ice sculptures, as well as a light and laser show, and celebratory fireworks.
Guests from Archangelsk, Veliky Novgorod, St.-Petersburg, Surgut, Omsk, Narva, Naryan-Mar and from 11 cities of the Center and Northwest of Russia came to take part in the festival.
