Kizhi heritage in Intermuseum

On May 23-27 Kizhi open-air museum, one of the oldest museums of this category in Russia, participates in the IXth All-Russia museum festival Intermuseum-2007.

This year Kizhi museum takes part in competitive program of the festival, having submitted two projects for consideration of the jury. In the Museum Project nomination there has been proposed Museum Open to the World presentation and exhibition program of Kizhi museum in Moscow devoted to the 40th anniversary of reserve museum (by L.Shilova, deputy director of museum on museum and educational activity). In the Family in the Museum nomination there has been proposed the Kizhi volost: Family and Museum project (by S.Vorobeva, chief of the department of history and ethnography).

For Kizhi open-air museum, possessing the status of federal museum, realization of the presentation program in the capital of Russia was extremely important. The museum has shown the society an example of effective state policy in the field of preservation of historical and cultural heritage in one of the regions of Russia. The museum faced the task to show monuments and museum collections of especially valuable object of the Russian Federation and UNESCO, as well as activity of the museum on preservation, studying, representation of its historical and cultural heritage. The Museum Open to the World program which was a success in Moscow has been taken by the museum for participation in the Museum Project nomination.

The Kizhi volost: Family and Museum project is devoted to the problem of self-identity of modern person through cognition of family, clan, cultural and historical roots. One of the project purposes is increasing the family status as cultural tradition carrier. Innovative aspect of the project is involving families living in historical territory in activity of the museum on preservation and popularization of cultural heritage, implementation of various museum programs: exhibitions, expositions, museum festivals, drawing up of family trees at direct participation of aboriginal families. Close communication with families living in historical territory studying family trees is a new direction in museum activity.

Besides competition projects, Kizhi museum will acquaint visitors of the festival and colleagues from museums of Russia with seven presentation programs, and all of them will call attention of museum community of Russia for the first time. These programs cover the most different, both traditional, and new directions of activity of the museum: Carpenter Center of Museum; museum and educational projects on the subject of Social, Cultural, Museum and Educational Competitions as Means of Communication with Various Layers of the Society and Tool of Kizhi Open-Air Museum Development and Summer University on Kizhi Island - the New Interactive Form to Improve Pofessional Skill of Experts in the XXIst Century; Ecological Path New Route; Kizhi chimes, Folklore Ethnographic Theatre of the Museum; Work of Kizhi Open-Air Museum with Mass-Media.

The museum prepares various information, advertising and methodical materials covering long-term experience of the museum in development of communications with society through immersing it in the richest culture of Zaonezhie. It occurs by means of exhibition projects, museum festivals, lecture halls, concert activity, educational programs, advertising through mass-media and distribution of the Kizhi museum newspaper which in three years has found its constant and devoted readers’ audience.
