On August, 23 session of Economic Council at the Head of the Republic of Karelia was held. Social and Economic Development Strategy of the Republic till 2020 was discussed at the session.
Such document was developed in seven regions of Russia only. Among them our republic became one of the best. As the Prime Minister of the Government of Karelia Pavel Chernov has told, in June the Development Strategy was considered in Moscow at the session of Interdepartmental commission at the Ministry of Regional Development of Russia and was highly commended by its participants.
Work on the document was going within a year by force of representatives of ministries and scienctists of the republic, and its basic developer was the Ministry of Economic Development.
The Strategy till 2020 sets problems, scripts of development of Karelia and the mainstreams allowing to provide competitiveness of the region in Russian and international markets. Among priorities set there are development of human capital and innovation, and modernization of society, infrastructural development of the territory in view of its frontier location.
According to the Minister of Economic Development Mikhail Yurinov, special attention will be paid to implementation of regional projects. In particular, the Forest Karelia project provides development of timber industry complex and formation of competitive business in timber sector. The Bowels of Karelia project will be called to raise efficiency of use and management of the state fund of bowels of the republic . The Hospitable Karelia project is directed on increase in inflow of tourists and promotion of image of the republic, and New Karelia will create necessary conditions for intensive development of traditional sectors of economy, creation of innovative products and services. Another project is connected with frontier location of the region.
Significant accent in further development of the republic will be done on labour resources and growth of efficiency of their use. The main purpose of the Strategy is life quality improvement on the basis of steady development of economy, active participation of the region in the system of international and inter-regional exchange. It is supposed that by 2020 total regional product of the republic will increase 2.4 times to the standard of 2005, and index of industrial production will double. Volume of investments into fixed capital will increase three times, real incomes of the population will grow 2.3 times. Besides, implementation of the Strategy will enable Karelia obtain the 'Russia's card' status.
Prime Minister of the Government of Karelia Pavel Chernov has noted, that Strategy will let the republic take part in federal projects and have federal financing in greater volumes than now.
In September the Strategy project will be submitted to the Head of the republic to forward it for approval to the Karelian parliament.
