Preparation for establishing a national park in Ladoga lakeside will be completed by the middle of the next year – this term is designated in a special working plan of measures prepared by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia and approved by the Head of Karelia. In July 2009 the draft order on the park creation will be submitted to the Government of the Russian Federation. It was mentioned on February 5 at the expanded session of the working group created at the Government of Karelia for development of design offers for the national park formation.
The main task of developers is to execute ecologial and economic design validation of the park creation, to define its borders and make a so-called cadastral register number, which includes comprehensive cadastral information on the plot of land to become a part of the park. The main contractor, Karelian Department of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage, plans to spend from 4 to 4,5 million roubles from the federal budget for these purposes.
At definition of park borders, offers of Karelgrazhdanproekt architectural, design and planning bureau prepared in 1995 and the project made under the TACIS program in 2000 will be taken as a basis. Total area of the park created makes about 120 thousand hectares where over 45 thousand people live. Ecologial and economic design validation will be brought for public hearings in settlements located in this territory. Among them there are settlements of Pitkäranta, Sortavala and Lahdenpohja regions of Karelia. Early local residents have already supported creation of natural park, however, according to the law, changing of the status of especially protected territory demands carrying out of repeated hearings.
Participants of the working group have agreed about plans of further work and have made a decision solicit the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation for changing the offered by the federal ministry name of the park – Ladoga Lakeside – to familiar to Karelians Ladoga Skerries. Also the question of reservation of territory of the future park will be solved along the way soon.
Prime Minister of the Government of Karelia Pavel Chernov presided at the session. The working group is headed by his assistant, Minister of Agriculture, Fish Industry and Ecology of the republic Vanda Patenko.
