Specialized exhibition Tourist Karelia. Active Tourism - 2008 held at the support of the machinery of plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the Northwest Dederal District opened on February 29, at the National theatre in Petrozavodsk .
The exhibition presents more than 80 companies from different cities of Russia, municipal units, tourist companies and hotel enterprises, museums, scientific and educational establishments of Karelia, and also Moscow, St.-Petersburg and Krasnodar territory.
Head of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov, assistant to the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in Northwest Federal District Evgeny Lukianov, Chief Federal Inspector in the Republic of Karelia of the machinery of plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the NWFD Valentin Shmykov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia Gennady Nechaev and others have taken part in the exhibition opening ceremony.
As the Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov noted, the primary goal in development of tourism in the republic today is attraction of tourists not only from abroad, but also from Russia. "With growth of income per head the number of travellers will grow, - Head of the Republic has noted. - "Therefore, we prepare for increase in inflow of tourists and we count on it. In the republic there has been approved the Concept of the Development of Tourism in the Republic of Karelia for the period through to 2010 regional target program, and the most perspective for this purpose territory have been defined. Within the next few years in Petrozavodsk and in regions of the republic there will appear new hotel complexes, new routes. It is necessary to learn to receive guests and to attract investors. In the long term, about 20 percent of its incomes the republic will be able to receive from the tourist business. It is done this way in the developed countries, we count on it in Karelia as well."
"In Karelia there are not man-made riches, unique beauty of nature," - Evgeny Lukianov has told. - "To give an opportunity to people from other regions to touch on this beauty, preserve and increase these riches for the future generations is a great responsibility of the state."
Within the scope of exhibition the Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia has held an inter-regional meeting on the subject of Development of Active Tourism in Regions of Russia: Practice, Problems, Prospects. Representatives of enforcement authorities of subjects of the Northwest of Russia, Northwest branch of the Russian Union of Travel Industry, National Academy of Tourism, Russian International Academy of Tourism, Northwest Association, Central administrative board of the Ministry of Emergency Measures in the Republic of Karelia, tourist industry of the republic and Northwest regions of the Russian Federation have taken part in the meeting.
