Since January 1 Russian regions are in charge of exercise of powers in the field of protection and use of objects of fauna. According to requirements of the legislation Hunting Management Department has been founded in the republic.
On April 24 Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov has held a working meeting with head of department the Vladimir Stepanov who has told the Head of the region on work of the department and important issues whuch interest hunters the most.
As Vladimir Stepanov has told, all organizational actions related to the Department establishing, have passed now, inspectors exercising powers on the spot work almost in every region of the republic. The Department has signed the Agreement on cooperation with law enforcement bodies and nature protection departments according to which certain obligations related to protection of fauna and forests are assigned to each party. Public formations and hanters render their active assistance.
Head of Karelia has concentrated his special attention on the subject preservation of forest.
- Both law-enforcement system, and public, and local authorities should protect our forest riches and provide safety of animals, - Sergey Katanandov has told.
Vladimir Stepanov has also informed, that the spring hunting season started in the republic since April 12. From now on and till May 11 it is allowed to hunt brown bear. Wild fowl hunting starts since May 1 - for wood-grouse roosters on a lek, drakes and geese roosters from the shelter . Considering, that climatic conditions and time of fowl arrival are different in regions of Karelia, different terms of hunting were established as well. In southern regions it is allowed to hunt feathery game from May 1 to 10, and in northern regions - from May 5 to 15.
It has become a tradition that brown bear spring hunting lasts one month, on feathery game hunting period is 10 days long.
Vladimir Stepanov has expressed confidence, that spring hunting will by successful and will pass without infringements of the legislation.
