Within the period from July 5 to 12, 2008 the XXXVII International sailing regatta
Onego-2008 is to be held in the Republic of Karelia- the open sailing championship of Russia among cruiser yachts of OPEN 800 class.
This meg-event is organized by Government of the Republic of Karelia, Federation of sailing of Russia and the Republic of Karelia, Administration of Petrozavodsk. As a tradition, Head of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov chairs the regatta steering committee.
For the first time the Onego regatta took place in 1972 when eight yachts started the only one-hundred-mile race. Today the Regatta has won the right to be considered one of the most prestigious competitions among yachtsmen and is ranked the open championship of Russia.
This year the Championship of Russia welcomes the Open - 800 class cruiser yachts. A special monetary prize of 200 thousand roubles established by the Head of the Republic of Karelia of S.Katanandov will be aearded in this class.
Within eight days over the huge territory of Onego lake there will pass the most fascinating and incomparable Regatta. For this time the yachts participating in the regatta will cover the distance of about 400 sea miles. Spectators will watch an event unique on its beauty. In total there will be held 6 races.
The regatta solemn opening is to be held on July 5 at 3:00 p.m. at the embankment of Onego lake (in the mouth of Lososinka river).
