On March 24, Head of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov has made a working trip to Pryazha region where he has visited industrial enterprises and social establishments, and has held a number of meetings. Perhaps, unlike several previous trips, this one was featured for leaving much more reasons for optimism.
Pryazha region which has no large industry focused on export, has much less suffered from the world crisis, than regions visited by the Head of the republic in the beginning of year. Though, of course, difficulties are felt here, too, government of the region supervises over the situation successfully, and business operates.
Head of the republic has got evidence of that, having visited the quarry of Pryazha Mining Company, Ltd. This recently created enterprise grows confidently. The enterprise produces metal road of various fractions, which quality surpasses similar production of the South of Russia, Ukraine and other manufacturers. Demand for metal road has slackened due to reduction of construction rates, though the demand slackening is usual for the branch in winter. Experts predict, that stocks of metal road laying today in cones, will scatter in spring with good benefit for the enterprise. Of course, nobody is quite happy about the electricity price's jump (more than 60% in January), though the operating enterprise as a whole will be able to stand these difficulties the more so tariffs have already started to reduce. With full capacity start-up of the quarry there will appear about 200 new workplaces for the population of the region.
Heads of the mining company have brough up a few issues to the attention of the Head of the republic, demanding the proper level of decision-making - for example, construction of a railway station and a gas-distributing station nearby. They were promised the all-round assistance of the Government of Karelia.
With satisfaction Head of the republic has also examined the new enterprise of tourist industry of the region – Alekka holiday camp. With modern equipment, comfortable recreation center several kilometers from Essoila is already in great demand among visitors of Karelia, and, despite of whatever crises, does not expect serious difficulties in the coming tourist season.
Another leader of economy of Pryazha region and the main agricultural producer of the region, Pryazhinskoye Joint-Stock Company, is getting on a bit worse. First of all, it is related to very negative world conjuncture in the fur market, which unique manufacturer is Karelian enterprise. Sergey Katanandov has visited the warehouse where the 'soft gold' to the sum of more than 50 million roubles is stored today. Unfortunately, the prospect of selling these treasures is obscure. The point to continue production of goods that can't be sold is even more unobvious.
It is hard to expect, that the Russians, compelled to save on food and the most necessary purchases, will all of a sudden rush to buy silver fox and mink for fur coats and hats. Nevertheless, it is possible to speak about 'commodity patriotism': in fact, in Petrozavodsk shops women of fashion keep buying up mink and fox fur coats made of imported furs which quality is much worse than Pryazha furs.
Nadezhda social service complex center municipal institution in the village of Essojla has recently become operational after reconstruction. Elementary school was located before in this building recently, but on a number of specifications its operation should have been canceled. Now the building has passed its reconstruction. In particular, the modern system of security-fire signal system is installed there, everuthing is brought into accord with safety requirements. Up to 55 elderly helpless people can live there, receiving both care and health services, and spending active leisure, mastering national crafts. Besides, elderly people from the village are pleased to visit the 'social reception room' of the Center where they find a sort of a club for communication and joint creativity.
Of course, the instittution is in need, and it needs a lot, which has been reported to the Head of the republic. Sergey Katanandov promised to render every possible assistance in improving the elderly people's life.
