The Second Easter Chimes Orthodox choir festival was held in Petrozavodsk from April 30 to May 1 within the framework of the republican Soul of Karelia festival of sacred music devoted to the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia.
Manuil, Archbishop of Petrozavodsk and Karelia, welcomed the festival participants and guests. In his speech the reining bishop has emphasized, that «spiritual church chanting develop our taste for the beauty, improve and polish our feelings, are a spiritual treasury accumulated for millenia, are of a beneficial effect for people, expand our knowledge, as well as the area of our life». His Eminence Manuil has paid special attention to the fact that «carrying out of the festival becomes a good tradition enabling to show impressing panorama of parish and amateur choirs of Orthodox Karelia.»
The leading place in the festival program belonged tp spiritual songs. The audience has appreciated their church and concert performance. However, the judges were the most attentive and strict spectators. They defined the level of masterly performance of participants, their singing culture, originality of imaginative catches, expressiveness of performance. The famous St.-Petersburg composer, the A.Glazunov Petrozavodsk State Conservatory graduate, expert and judge of choral singing Vladislav Panchenko has headed the jury.
During the gala concert the audinece could hardly hold everobody willing to join true spiritual art. Replacing each other, on the stage appeared church and secular, professional and amateur, male, female and mixed choirs.
The basic purpose of the Soul of Karelia republican festival of sacred music held at the support of the Ministry of the Republic of Karelia on National Politics and Relations with Religious Associations is development of relations between the state and confessions in the region, formation of the system of cooperation between enforcement authorities, local self-government, religious and public organizations in the sphere of upbringing spiritual and moral values of the population of Karelia.
