The exhibition gives the chance to feel the air of old Petrozavodsk through the subject world of urban culture at the turn of the century (XIX—XX ). Here are presented man's and female suits with accessories, ornaments, also chinaware, needleworks, musical instruments, furniture. Also here are recreated the fragments of typical interiors of a petty-bourgeois apartment furnished in the fashion of those times — corner of a reception room with a sofa, a card table and bent-wood chairs. On the exhibition you can listen to popular romances and songs.
You will get acquainted with favourite home entertainments of townspeople and take part in display of “alive pictures”, play lotto, dominoe, checkers, chess, play old patience.
The program of “Old Town” which includes excursion on the exhibition, demonstration of female needleworks, viewing a slide-film with pictures of old Petrozavodsk and walk on historical quarter is offered to residents and visitors of Karelia.
The exhibition is organized within the limits of the project of “Illusions of Old Town», which won the V Grant Competition of museum projects - «CHANGEABLE MUSEUM IN CHANGEABLE WORLD», 2008, carried out by Potanin’s Charitable Foundation at the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and daily management of Association of Managers of Culture (АMC).
