Preparation for the anniversary of Karelia is in progress.

Session of the regional steering committee of the republic on preparation for celebrating the 90th anniversary of the republic was held on October 2. The session was chaired by the Prime Minister of Karelia Pavel Chernov.

As the Chief of the Administration of the Head of the Republic Lyudmila Kosyuk has told, this week the federal plan of the republic's preparation for the anniversary was endorsed by the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.

Total amount of financing within the scope of this plan exceeds 4,8 billion roubles. The money was partly assigned this year, the rest will be received next year, and financing of some entires of the program will proceed in 2011. Total amount of federal grants for the anniversary actions makes 1,86 billion roubles. Another 1,36 billion will be involved from the unappropriated sources.

On the information provided by Lyudmila Kosyuk, the second session of the federal steering committee on preparation for celebrating the 90th anniversary of Karelia chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Victor Zubkov will be held in October.

At present the anniversary celebration program includes such entries as construction of new swimming pool in Kostomuksha, the second phase of the obstetrical and surgical building with a polyclinic department in Kalevala, sport and recreation center in Lahdenpohja, a 69-room apartment house for the residents of Valaam in Sortavala, reconstruction of a stadium in Olonets, repair of some republican roads, etc.

Petrozavodsk will be the main site of the holiday. At the session there has been established a special commission on preparation of the city for the celebration. It is headed by Pavel Chernov, and the Commission Vice-Chairmen are Assistants to the Prime Minister of the Government of Karelia Alexander Kolesov, Valery Momotov, Lyudmila Kosyuk and Mayor of Petrozavodsk Nikolay Levin. The Commission will meet bi-weekly.

Within the framework of the anniversary program in Petrozavodsk it is supposed to complete construction of one of the campus buildings of Petrozavodsk State University, water treating facilities, Kurgan sports complex, Onego Palace hotel, reconstruct the National Library of the RK and the Conservatoire to lead scale works on an accomplishment. Mass cultural and sports events will comprise a special block of the program. The meeting participants were offered to make all corrective amendments in the program by October 12, and by the end of the month it is supposed to make draft schedules of construction, reconstruction and repair worka and declare sources of their financing.
 

Besides, at the session there have been formed working groups for specific spheres of preparation for the anniversary: release of printed and souvenir production, carrying out of fairs and exhibitions, cooperation with institutions of local government, etc. These groups will meet weekly.
