The draft plan of activities to be held in Petrozavodsk on June 3-8, 2010, in connection with an anniversary of Kareliya, was discussed on November 5, by members of the Commission created specially to prepare the city for the celebration. The session was chaired by the Assistant to the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Karelia and the Minister of Construction Valery Momotov and Acting Assistant to the Prime Mnister, Chief of the Administration of the Head of the Republic Lyudmila Kosyuk.
The fundamentals of the draft plan is bormed by activitie which the republic included in the draft of the Russian plan of main activities related to preparation and carrying out of celebrating of the 90th anniversary of Karelia. By now the document has been endorseed by the federal executive authorities. It was also considered at the recent session of the steering cpommittee on preparation for the anniversary of the republic held in Moscow by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Victor Zubkov.
– The steering committee has positive attitude to the republic, which confirms that Karelia will receive federal support in preparation for its holiday. Our task is to to organize and hold up to the mark, considering that we're expecting many guests to come to the anniversary of Karelia, including international and regional delegations, – Lyudmila Kosyuk said.
Activities dated for the celebration are being implemented even now. However, most of them will be held within the period from from March to June of 2010.
The draft plan of activities to be held directly in Petrozavodsk on June 3-8 inlcudes 42 activities. These days in the city it is planned to open some objects: the Onego Palace hotel complex, the Kantele House, the second stage of the IT Park of Petrozavodsk State University and academic and laboratory building of the Faculty of Physical Engineering. There also will take plave the ceremony of consecration of the Church of the Great Martyr Panteleimon and launching of the Karelia boat.
The significant part of the plan is comprised of mass, cultural and sports activities. The exhibition of works of students of Children's art schools of the republic, exhibition of children's art creativity and The Native Land exhibition of arts and crafts will be devoted to the anniversary of the republic. Many activities are planned at participation of schoolchildren (celebratory activities in day camps – My Karelia competitions of drawing and poems), Karelian Treasure Hunters program in teenage clubs (quizes, competitions, games). There will also take place The Runninbg Hope international marathon, international schoolchildren's football tournament, festival of extremal sports, republican festival of martial arts. The football match between the combined team of Karelia and the combined team of veteran stars of the Russian football is scheduled in the plan, along with lots of concerts.
Issues of preparation of printed matter and souvenirs for the anniversary of Karelia, participation of local commodity producers in celebratory activities, holding of exhibitions and fairs in the city are on the agenda.
Participants of the session have also discussed the issue of repair of facades of buildings, roads, streets of Petrozavodsk, accomplishment of Lenin Avenue and putting in order central streets of the city.
In the near future the draft plan of activities will be improved. When it takes its final shape, it will be submitted to the Head of Karelia for approval.
