Sortavala to host international seminar on security issues in tourism
Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia together with Provincial board of Oulu and Administration of Sortavala metropolitan region will hold the international seminar on security issues in tourism on December, 8 in Sortavala.

The key subject of issuesn to be discussed at the seminar will be security of people travelling over motorways of the republic and prevention of road and transport incidents with tourists. Experience of solution of these tasks in territory of Finland will be presented at the seminar.

Representatives of the Department of State Traffic Safety Inspectorate in the Republic of Karelia, Central Administration of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergency Management and Natural Disasters Response in the Republic of Karelia, Karelian republican search and rescue service, tourist companies of Ladoga lakeside will take part in work of the seminar.

The seminar is related to the project on security of tourism implemented jointly by the Province Oulu and the Republic of Karelia form 2007 to 2009.

Subjects of the seminar on security of tourism are the following: traffic safety, cooperation of authorities at road accidents and field rescue. The purpose is exchange of opinions and information on methods that help to improve traffic safety and prevent road accidents. Another purpose is creation of description of the modern model of cooperation between authorities and other subjects of activity at field rescue operations and road accidents.

Target groups are representatives of State Traffic Safety Inspectorates, militia, road administration, rescue services, regional enforcement authority responsible for tourism development, Administration of Sortavala metropolitan region, tourist enterprises, enterprises organizing adventure holidays, public organizations and mass media.
