The new Syrovatka reserve is founded in Karelia

Government of the Republic of Karelia has issued the Order On the Foundation of Syrovatka State Complex (Landscape) Reserve. It is founded in territory of Kem region on the area of 31,472 hectares.

– The concept of creation of the reserve for the first time emerged in 1991, – Ivan Kiprukhin, leading expert of the department of environment and specially protected natural areas, tells. – Then within the scope of the scheduled landscape-ecological research of the Forest Research Institute of Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Science obvious perspectivity to establish specially protected natural area on this site was revealed. Subsequently, upon the research which involved experts in different spheres, there has been prepared a rationale for establishing of the landscape reserve.

In territory of the reserve there has been established nature management conditions inhibiting cutting of wood, development of minerals, woodland drainage improvement, peatery, use of weed and pest-killer chemicals, spring hunting, tourist parking from mid-April to mid-June, gathering of plants recorded in Red Books of Russia and Karelia, industrial extraction of the seaweed and fish, trade gathering of mushrooms and berries.

Allowed are research activity, tourism, construction of specially equipped tourist parkings and constructions, trade and amateur fishing, as well as licensed hunting at a stated time, amateur gathering of mushrooms and berries.
