On Thursday, October, 5th, on the Russian-Finnish border in the north of Karelia there opened the new international automobile check point Suoperд. As the NA REGNUM correspondent was informed in the Ministry of Economic Development of the republic, the total cost of works on the international automobile check point construction has made about Ђ6 million, financial assets for these purposes have been allocated by the European Union.

According to the Deputy Minister of the Karelian the Ministry of Economic Development Dmitry Kislov, occurrence of a new check point on the border with Finland will allow to recover subpolar areas of the republic. "We consider, that international automobile check point Suoperд will make development of tourism in Louhi district more active, as Paanajдrvi national park is located there. The neighbouring areas of Finland are now visited by about one million tourists a year, and our republic is quite able to receive a part of this tourist stream," - Dmitry Kislov has told.

As the Deputy Minister has noted, within the next few years the Karelian authorities intend to equip a highway to connect international automobile check point Suoperд to the federal highway Kola that will enable travellers from Northern Europe to make a short cut to the White sea.
