Vodlozersky National Park

National park “Vodlozersky” was founded in 1991 by the decision of the Russian government in order to preserve natural and historical heritage of Vodlozerje, to hold researches and to develop ecotourism. It became the first object of this type in the European north of Russia.

The park is situated on the southeast border of Fennoscandia. Its northern part is in Archangelsk region, the southern one – in the Republic of Karelia. In area extent (about 0.5 million hectares) the park is one of the largest nature reserve in the world.
