Salmi

Salmi — is the ancieny karelian settlement, founded not far from Ladoga lake shore, in the creek of the Tulema river. In Middle Ages– the settlement on the border of Russia and Sweden. Now it is situatad on the route Sortavala - Olonets.

In XV century the village was the centre of the Salminsky Pogost.

In 1824- 1826 years The Church of St. Nicholas Wonderworker was built on a high hill in the centre of the village. The project was created at the workshop of an outstanding finish architector K. L. Engel.

Salmi is the beginning of Ladoga Skerres.
