Kollasjarvi military and historical complex

The territory near the village of Loimola (near the lake of Kollasjarvi) was the place of active war operations for three times: during the Winter War of 1939 - 1940, in the summer of 1941 and in June 1944. During this time strong Finnish and Soviet defensive installations were created here. The remains of trenches, entrenchment, dugouts and blindages are well preserved till our days. Nowadays more than 60 war burial places is found on this territory (mainly common graves).

The beginning of the historical and military complex near the lake of Kollasjarvi might be dated by 1942, when the forest ministry of Finland made the decision to open some of the memorable places of the Winter War for tourists. Kollasjarvi was among these places. A special commission defined the zone, where the memorable cross Kola was placed (it is 18 meters high). People call it "Mannergeim’s cross".
