Great European lakes
Petrozavodsk + Kizhi + Valaam
2 days/1 night
Karelia is also known as “the region of thousands of lakes”. Its territory unites 60 000 lakes including Lake Ladoga and Lake Onego, the largest lakes in Europe. We invite you to get acquainted with its beauty and admire the treasures that each of them hides.
Day 1:
Arrival in Petrozavodsk. Transfer from the railway station to the hotel. Accommodation (twin rooms). Breakfast.
City tour “The City of Peter the Great” (the architectural the ensemble of the Round Square(18th century), the Governor’s Garden, the Theatre Square (4 theatres), the Onego Lake Embankment with a unique open-air museum of modern avant-garde sculpture). Photo-stop near the Monument to Peter the Great.
Visit to the Karelian Lore Museum. Learning some interesting facts about the history and culture of Karelia.
Lunch in the city café.
Departure of the hydrofoil to Kizhi Island (1h 15 min by hydrofoil). Kizhi is one of the first open-air museums and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Russia in the heart of the marvelous Onego Lake. The pearl of the museum is its world-known wooden church ensemble which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990.
Excursion in the Kizhi Open-Air Museum of Wooden Architecture. Visit of the functioning church of the Kizhi Architectural Ensemble and ethnographic village of the museum.
Departure to Petrozavodsk.
Transfer to the hotel “Severnaya” (3*)/ “Karelia” (4*).
Free time.
Dinner.
Day 2:
Transfer to Sortavala (250 km). Lunch boxes.
Departure of the hydrofoil to Valaam Island (50 min by hydrofoil). The Valaam Monastery is located on the largest Island in Lake Ladoga.
Excursion program round the Central Monastery Complex with a visit to the Transfiguration Cathedral, the Church of the Assumption, large number of chapels, monastery cell buildings, domestic constructions, ancient graveyards.
Lunch in monastery’s refectory.
The concert of the church choir in one of the churches of Valaam.
Departure of the hydrofoil from Sortavala to Saint Petersburg (4h by hydrofoil).
The price is given on request.
The price includes: Accommodation (hotel in the city center), meals according to the program, transfers, entrance tickets, guide services.
