Petrozavodsk + Waterfall Kivatch + Kinerma Village + Ruskeala Marble Park

 

 

 

06:50 - Arrival in Petrozavodsk. Meeting with a guide. Transfer to the "Severnaya" Hotel.

07:30 - Breakfast.

08:30 - City tour of Petrozavodsk "The Charm of Winter Petrozavodsk" (the architectural ensemble of Round Square (the 18^th century), Governor's Garden, Theatre Square (4 theatres), Onego Lake Embankment with the unique open-air museum of modern avant-garde sculptures). Photo-stop near the Monument to Peter the Great.

10:00 - Out-of-town excursion to the Kivach Nature Reserve (82 km from Petrozavodsk).

11:30 - Visit of the second highest plain waterfall in Europe, waterfall Kivach roaring under a snow cover.

15:00 - Return to Petrozavodsk. Accommodation.

Lunch.

Free time.

19:00 - Dinner with folklore program.

11:00 - Departure to Sortavala (250 km).

13: 00 - Stop for lunch of Karelian cuisine in Kinerma. Kinerma is a unique Karelian village where there are no newly built houses. The centre of the village forms a chapel dedicated to Virgin Mary of Smolensk (18^th century).

17:30 - Arrival at the Ruskeala Marble Park. Ruskeala Marble has been famous since the 17^th century and was used for decorating cathedrals, palaces and fountains in St.Petersburg. Today this mine is an open-air museum, an outstanding unit of man-made and natural beauty.

Evening excursion at Ruskeala Marble Park. You will have a unique opportunity to see the Ruskeala Marble illuminated with the help of local lighting of various colour.

19:00 - Arrival in Sortavala. Accommodation at the hotel ”Sortavala“.

20:00 - Dinner.

 

Breakfast.

Transfer to the railway station.

07:20 - Departure to St. Petersburg by train.
